2013 Poster Session

The MAA Undergraduate Student Poster Session, organized by Chasen Smith (Georgia Southern University) and Eric Ruggieri (College of the Holy Cross), will be held on Friday, January 17th, 2020. Students will have from 2:30 to 3:30 pm to set up their posters, judging will begin at 3:30 pm and general viewing will begin at 4:30 pm. The session ends at 6 pm. The session is reserved for undergraduate and first-year graduate students submitting posters on work done while an undergraduate. Posters will be viewed during the session and feedback provided by professionals and mathematicians, will be available the following day at the MAA Programs booth. JMM is the largest annual mathematics meeting in the world and offers a variety of sessions that are designed to appeal to undergraduates. Visit the official JMM website for complete registration and program information.

The MAA Undergraduate Student Poster Sessions humble beginning in 1990 with fewer than fifteen student projects. It now showcases more than 400 projects and continues to grow each year. There are over 300 professional mathematicians participating on the judging panel, so this is a great opportunity to get your work noticed by leaders in your field.

Appropriate poster topics include: a new result, a new proof of a known result, a new mathematical model, an innovative solution to a Putnam problem, a method of solution for an applied problem. Purely expository topics are not appropriate for this session. For more information, please see A Guide to Writing an Abstract.

All presenting students must also register for the conference itself at the Joint Mathematics Meetings website.

If you are a student applying to the MAA Undergraduate Student Poster Session, please check out our poster requirements and guidelines and student poster session FAQ.

The MAA is proud to have been able to support over 2,000 undergraduate students presenting their research at MAA MathFest and the Joint Mathematics Meetings since 2014. Unfortunately, the grant program supported by the National Science Foundation is coming to an end, with MAA MathFest in summer 2018 being the final conference with available grant funding. We encourage students to discuss alternate sources for travel support with their mathematics department and to join us at future meetings.
